Blog Post #13

ALEX (Alabama Learning Exchange):
ALEX is a free website that allows educators to gain resources that will help them in the classroom. This website has been given awards also. In 2007 they were awarded an Honorable mention, in 2008 the Digital Education Achievement Award, and in 2009 they were awarded the Digital Education Achievement Award again. After looking at this website I have found that it could be very useful to me as an educator. Many times we will probably run out of ideas for creative ways of learning for our students. At this site, we will be able to find activities, lesson plans, ask other teachers, and even view podcasts about certain things. I will definitely keep this site in mind as I continue into my career as and educator. I am happy for this site to be represented to me.

ALEX offers many resources for teachers. If you look at the tabs on the left-hand column, you will find many options for the educator to look into: courses of study, web links, lesson plans, search, personal workspace, professional learning, podcast treasury, and ALEXville. The Course of Study tab allows the educator access by grade level, course of study, key words, ALCOS standards, and it will show the web links and lesson plans that are available. The Web Links tab shows web resources for teachers, administrators, students, and it allows you to search, recommend, or report broken links. The Lesson Plans tab allows the educator to make their own lesson plans on this program by logging in, or one may be found by typing in the author, title, or school. The Search tab allows to search by keyword or narrow the search by choosing an ALCOS standard, lessons/activities, weblinks, lesson plans/resources. The Personal Workspace tab allows the user to log-in, create a personal workplace for storing and submitting lesson plans and teacher web pages. The Professional Learning tab gives a place to receive information about grant opportunities, ALEX/ Thinkinfinity Leadership, special education, library media, web devellopment, google tools, and many other available resources listed. The Podcast Treasury tab allows the user to choose by subject, view the top downloads, featured content, Alabama show cases, links, and content partners. ALEXville is a tab that consists of a globe surrounded by houses. The globe on this page leads to the blog for this site by simply clicking on it. You may click on any of the houses to lead to many different venues; Each house leads somewhere different. The houses consistof the following placces: professional organizations, visit ALEX tech channel PLC, podcast PLC, A.C.E. trainers PLC, ALEX/AMSTI PLC, Teach 21 PLC, Learn more about GEMS-U, and Join a listerv.
